When we talk about humility it means different things to different people. Some assume it means you just lay down, let people walk all over you, never raise your voice, or bring attention to yourself. The reality is there is a fine line of showing confidence and being arrogant.
Those that are confident, just do the work. They play the game, they do what they do. Arrogance hits when we begin to tell others how good we are or at least think we are. Some of the greatest talents I have ever witnessed would say they aim to surround themselves with others that are better than them. It keeps them humble and makes them strive to be better.
The Apostle Paul wrote in Galatians 6:14, “May I never boast in anything except the cross…”. A man who was educated in the world and the best of religion and yet he said that his good works were like dirty rags.
When our identity is in Christ, our desire for recognition becomes less important and we just do the work. I pray that the Lord works in us all, to make us humble so that we fade into His glory as it is revealed through the Gospel at work in us.
Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.
Ephesians 4:2
