No. 46: Remember to Remember

These last few weeks with the loss of my brother, delays in our closing and the continued challenges of the new norm, I have had moments of frustration. I know, hard to believe isn’t it. Even pastors lose momentum (I know, some of you may have a different phrase -insert emoji) now and again. LOL. Honestly, I think it’s in those moments that we have the opportunity to really feel God’s presence and just let go and let him do his thing. The Apostle Paul felt this. In 2 Corinthians 12:8-9a...

"Concerning this, I pleaded with the Lord three times that it would leave me. But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is perfected in weakness.” (2 Cor 12:8-9a)

If things always went our way, we would never depend on God. Even so, those of us that have visibly watched God move in our lives, tend to suffer from amnesia when another obstacle is staring us down. Paul goes on to say in vs 9b-10...

Therefore, I will most gladly boast all the more about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may reside in me. So I take pleasure in weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and in difficulties, for the sake of Christ. For when I am weak, then I am strong. (2 Cor 12:9b-10)

You have heard me say more than once that we only see the part of the canvas that we are standing on. We don’t see the whole painting and how God is working everything around us so that he may be glorified. When we let go, we gain the strength of the one who hung the stars in the sky; the one who "keeps the world spinning" so our watches don’t get messed up (thank you Mark Lowry). He is the Great I Am and there is no one greater in the universe. All that, and He takes the time to be invested in each of our lives. Not because we love Him but because he first loved us. Being a musician I can always find a song that speaks to me on any subject matter. Steven Curtis Chapman penned “Remember to Remember” a few years back. He and his family have walked through some heart wrenching times and he chooses to remember where he was, what God brought him through and where he is headed with Jesus taking every step with him as he goes. So, if I can encourage you and myself this morning. Hold tight! Cling to the one who not only saved you, but walks with you daily and remember to remember. DEVOTIONAL PRAYER A Prayer for Strong Memories of Your Greatness Dear Lord, you have been so, so good to us time and time again. Yet, we still forget how amazing and powerful you are when we face the smallest inconvenience. Help us to exhibit strength and resolve when we are challenged by the world and to "remember to remember" how mighty you are and how great it is to have you in our lives. In your son's precious name I pray, Amen.
